Whilst this article deals with experiences with CADD batteries, it may apply to other rechargeable batteries.
If you own a CADD Power Pack and the rechargeable battery has died and you can not recharge it, you are probably aware that these batteries are no longer available and the new CADD battery will not work in 21-2365 power packs. This leaves you in a situation whereby it is not only necessary to buy a new battery but also a new power pack at a cost of about $1600. Rapid obsolescence is the price we pay for modern technology.
However, do not despair, there is an alternative to purchasing a new power pack. Not only can old CADD batteries be restored by custom battery manufacturers; they can also be reproduced at a cost lower than the original.
Due to a similar experience with a laptop battery, which would have cost $200+ to replace, I found a local custom manufacturer who could, in most cases, revive dead rechargeable batteries. This company’s process can restore as much as 80-90% of the battery’s original capacity. The cost is $30 and before processing the battery is evaluated (no cost) to determine if it is restorable.
I expect most cities have companies which can make custom batteries and I would advise you to consult them before you replace your 21-2365 power pack or any expensive rechargeable battery (pumps, laptops, etc.).You may find they can manufacture a new battery at a lower cost than the equipment’s supplier.
The Ottawa company I used was Alexander Battery
